Head Injuries from Auto Accidents

Head injuries are one of the most common consequences of having been involved in a car accident.  They can range from mild to quite severe, with proportional consequences for the victim of the injury.  Some of these injuries can include bruising to the brain, tissue tearing, fractures to the skull, oxygen being cut off to the brain, and more.  Sometimes the injuries can be even more serious, leading to what is known as traumatic brain injury.  Traumatic brain injury can be difficult to detect because its symptoms may not emerge for some time after the initial accident and even treatment.  Physical abilities can be impaired, but so can one’s emotional stability, personality, and mental acuity.  Depression is a common side effect, as is anxiety.  Traumatic brain injury is also exhibited through comas, paralysis, seizures, memory problems, and impaired speech and vision.

If you are the victim of a head injury resulting from an auto accident, you need to find legal representation quickly.  Just compensation and damages for your personal injury should not be compromised.  There are several reasons you want to find an attorney quickly.  Perhaps first and foremost, you are going to have to deal immediately with your medical situation.  Should you decide you want to file a claim against whoever may have caused your injury, the earlier in the process you have an attorney who can protect you and guide you through the potential legal issues in advance, the better off you will be should the case actually go to trial.  Secondly, there is a “statute of limitations” on how long you can wait to file a claim after the injury was caused or discovered.  This means there is a time limit on how long you can wait to file a potential claim.  If you miss the deadline, you will not be allowed to receive compensation or damages if someone else was liable for your injury.  The sooner you get an attorney involved, the better you can decide whether or not filing a claim is right for you, and if it is, how to do it properly.  Third, while hiring an attorney can always seem like a huge expense, if you have a head injury and want to file a personal injury claim, most attorneys will work on a contingency fee basis.  This means you don’t have to pay the attorney anything unless you win.  At the very least, the better attorneys will at least offer you a free consultation.  For example, if you live in Los Angeles, the excellent personal injury lawyers at California Attorney Group will meet with you for free to discuss your case for an initial free consultation.

To ensure you have a successful case, make sure to save everything and make note of everything.  Your lawyer will potentially be able to use that information as evidence should the case go to trial.  Of particular importance are the initial police reports and your personal observations in the immediate aftermath of the accident, as well as medical records and bills, statements from witnesses, and if there are any forensic experts involved, their reports on the incident and injuries.

Keep as much information at the ready as you can, find a great personal injury lawyer who will properly represent you, and prepare yourself for a challenging journey ahead.  It may not be easy, but loved ones, informed knowledge of what lies ahead, and an excellent attorney can all make the journey easier, and successful.
